Best of Luck Nikki – A Show That Grew With Us

There are some shows that don’t just stay on the screen, they sneak into your living room, plop down on your sofa, and quietly become part of your family. Best of Luck Nikki was exactly that. It didn’t feel like we were watching someone else’s life. It felt like we were watching ours just slightly louder, and with way funnier comebacks.

At the heart of it all was Dolly Singh. Armed with her camera and mildly chaotic family, she recorded sweet (and sometimes suspiciously exaggerated) video diaries for her baby sister Nikki. Let’s be honest, if any of us had tried recording advice for our younger siblings, it would’ve just been three hours of, “Don’t touch my stuff” and “Also, I wasn’t yelling, I was motivating.”

But Dolly was different. She was all heart, a little awkward, and very relatable. She messed up, tried again, and somehow always pulled through with a smile, a hug, or a very elaborate apology plan involving cake. That’s probably why we liked her so much. She was never perfect, but she cared. A lot.

And then there was Rohan. Ah, Rohan. His main goals in life were to eat, avoid work, and occasionally drop wisdom like “Don’t do today what you can delay till next month.” Sunny, the ultimate middle child, was a masterclass in lovable mischief. Bobby was… honestly just adorable. And Nikki? Well, she didn’t say much, but she didn't need to. She had the face. The one that said, “I see everything, and I will remember this when I grow up.”

Their parents, Himani and Avatar Singh, gave us the kind of energy that screamed, “We tried to have it all together, but then we had kids.” They were chaotic, sweet, and often the actual reason for the family disasters but also the reason everything eventually fell back into place.

Looking back, Best of Luck Nikki wasn’t trying to be deep. But somehow, it ended up saying the most honest things about growing up: that it’s messy, noisy, sometimes completely absurd… and still kind of wonderful.

We laughed when the Singhs panicked over nothing. We got teary-eyed during the heartfelt endings. And somewhere in between the madness, we learned that no matter how badly things go, as long as your people are with you, it’ll all be okay. Maybe not great. But okay with snacks.

So here’s to Nikki, Dolly, and everyone in between. Thank you for the memories, the warmth, and the very unrealistic expectations you gave us about how cool our siblings could be.

Honestly? Best of luck to all of us, trying to figure out life one diary entry at a time.
